“The best routes are the ones you haven’t ridden” – that quote inspired major life changes that catapulted me into the Chief Compliance Officer role.
In my new book, I share the lessons I’ve learned through good and bad times. Sharing my stories and being vulnerable is scary, but if there’s one thing I know about the people in this profession, it’s that we’ve got each other’s backs.
That’s why I wrote this book in the first place, to create a compendium to help transform compliance officers into in-demand business assets.
How?
Think about what the structure of an effective compliance program looks like.
Policies, procedures, training, investigations, governance, third-party due diligence, incentives, discipline…these elements are important because together, they create a structure that sets you up for success.
We can apply this to our lives as individuals that goes way beyond our career.
As I started to structure the book, I applied our program’s elements to our own lives, aligning a 12-month period with 12 themes over four quarters.

How to Use the Book
The practical part: this book is divided into four quarters like the fiscal year. Each quarter is divided into three months, and each month contains 20 individual tips, one per workday.
I. The Thought Prompts
At the beginning of each month, there is an introduction to the theme, as well as a thought prompt designed to help you draw connections to your life, foster growth, and trigger change.
II. The Big Win Record
At the end of each week, you’ll be asked to write down one win. Use your Big Win Record to remind yourself of your greatness.
III. ‘I’m Gonna Do It’ Entries
Along with your Big Win record, every week you’ll choose one of the tips to implement in your own life/work.
I. The Thought Prompts
On the last Friday of each month, you’ll have the opportunity to take a break and reflect on your work.
I. The Thought Prompts
At the end of each quarter, you’ll reflect on the 12 tips you chose to implement and evaluate three things: whether you completed them, whether they worked for you, and which you want to carry on into the next quarter or year.
I. The Thought Prompts
By the end of the year, you’ll have 52 wins, and 52 tasks you’ve internalized and applied. You’ll have four quarterly audits to help you stay on track, and responses to many thought prompts about your goals, strengths, and challenges.
